How to prepare for SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 with Wiiisdom
It’s time to prepare for SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025!
Are you planning to migrate to SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025? Wondering where to start and if your platform is BI 2025-ready? We’ve got you covered. As you may know, some elements will no longer be supported in this new version (more details of what’s included in SAP BI BI 2025 can be found here). You’ll need to prepare your environment to ensure it’s ready for a successful migration. The aim of this document is to support you in your preparation for the new generation of SAP BusinessObjects.
How do I know if I’m SAP BI 2025-ready?
A question I’m sure many of you are asking yourselves. SAP BI 2025 will see lots of new and exciting capabilities, as shown in the grand showcase during our SAP BusinessObjects Digital Summit, and you need to ensure your environment is prepared for this new version. With 360Suite by Wiiisdom, we can help you do just that so you can prepare and validate the migration confidently.
Get an audit of your BI 2025 readiness
We now provide a Readiness Customer Cockpit in 360Suite that shows you your level of readiness for SAP BI 2025 with statistical information about your environment. This includes the number of:
- UNVs that still exist and will, therefore, need to be converted to UNX.
- Crystal Reports for Enterprise that you still have, and will need to be converted to Crystal Reports Classic or Web Intelligence.
- Lumira visualizations, that will need to be rebuilt in SAP Analytics Cloud or Webi dashboards.
- Live Office documents, that will need to be rebuilt in SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office or Web Intelligence Document.
- Documents in the Analysis for OLAP tool, that will need to be rebuilt in SAP Analytics Cloud or Webi.
We will also tell you about your Universes’ usage such as:
- The number of documents still pointing towards UNVs (these will need to be repointed).
- The number of UNX Multi Source Universes (MSU) (these will need to be converted to SSUs).

Convert your UNV to UNX
This has been a big topic over the past years and we know many organizations have delayed starting this project, but now is the time. SAP BI 2025 doesn’t support UNV so they need to be converted to UNX if you wish to move to this new version.
At Wiiisdom, we propose a 6-step process to carry out a UNV to UNX conversion:
1. Backup
This is important because conversions can fail, they can create issues, and VMs can become corrupted. 360Suite solutions allow you to put a backup in place so you can rollback if necessary leveraging incremental capabilities.
2. Audit
Auditing your environment provides you an estimate of the amount of work that needs be migrated to be able to track your progress. We provide a complete analysis of all the content (used and unused) in your environment, such as document count and custom SQL Webi documents. We can also show you any content that hasn’t been used in the past 13 months.
3. Clean-up
After carrying out an audit, it’s time to cleanup your environment to reduce workload, shorten times, improve troubleshooting, and remove obsolete objects. Our solutions help automate this by isolating, archiving and/or deleting unused content.
4. Convert
Whether you have hundreds or thousands of UNV, you can convert your UNV to UNX in bulk in just a few clicks in 360Suite, while maintaining copies of your UNVs just in case.
5. Repoint
Repointing your documents manually is hugely time consuming but with 360Suite, this is done very easily and quickly in bulk.
6. Validate
It’s critical to validate that your Web Intelligence documents are working properly after the UNV to UNX conversion. To do this, 360Suite offers automated regression testing capabilities to catch any errors and validate the migration. This is critical for Public documents that have more exposure. Make sure you perform additional validation for sensitive reports and reports that use custom SQL that had to be updated in the repointing process.
Why Vidéotron chose Wiiisdom solutions to convert its UNV to UNX
We had the pleasure of welcoming Ghassan Zghaib, BI System Architect at Vidéotron, to our SAP BusinessObjects Live Summit to share how and why he chose to convert UNVs to UNXs by leveraging 360Suite by Wiiisdom.
As part of their DB2 to Snowflake migration, Vidéotron had approximately 60K documents linked to UNVs in their environment that needed to be converted to UNX. They originally hoped to leverage the automation framework provided by SAP BusinessObjects but due to the amount of documents they had, the time involved, the conversion rate and the inability to handle multi connections, it just wasn’t leverageable for them. They needed a tool to facilitate this conversion project to deliver on time and in budget. Cue: 360Suite solutions.
Ghassan was able to leverage the entire 360Suite solution portfolio to complete the project:
- They leveraged our impact analysis solution to first identify the most critical, frequently used, and active documents to determine the quantity linked to UNVs.
- From there, they used 360Suite to automate the conversion process starting with some batches, following up with users to validate they were happy with the results, and then accelerating the execution of the remaining batches.
- Once the conversion was completed, they utilized our automated regression testing solution to visually and instantly compare documents between the old and the new database, catching errors that might have been missed manually, such as small decimal discrepancies. This ensured the success of the migration and identified any issues before deployment.
- They also benefited from 360Suite’s selective backup feature for added security but fortunately didn’t need to rollback.
Without 360Suite solutions, this conversion project would have taken 1 person 2 years to execute but thanks to 360Suite’s automation capabilities, this ended up taking mere weeks rather than years, and Ghassan was able to deliver this project on time and on budget.
