Customer Story: How MACIF, a French Insurance Group, Uses Tableau Dashboard Validation to Keep Dashboards Reliable at Scale with Wiiisdom for Tableau
“There’s nothing more frustrating for a user than opening a dashboard, right when they need it to make a decision, whether operational, managerial, or strategic, and realizing it’s broken.”
That’s the exact moment MACIF set out to eliminate: a decision-maker opening a dashboard mid-meeting, only to find the data isn’t reliable. We sat down with Matthieu Mercier, who leads the Data & Analytics teams in MACIF’s Health and Life Insurance division, on the sidelines of an event we hosted in Paris in June 2026, to hear how.
Tableau at MACIF: from dashboarding to self-service
MACIF is a French mutual insurance and financial services group, with a workforce of over 11,000 employees. Tableau is its go-to data visualization tool, used today mainly for dashboarding, to power the reports that run the business. However, MACIF’s ambition goes further: turning Tableau into a genuine self-service analytics platform for the wider organization.
A significant growth target and the bottleneck it exposed
MACIF aims to grow its Tableau user base and intends to accelerate self-service BI adoption, alongside a migration of Tableau Server to the Cloud. Scaling that fast surfaced a major constraint: weekly manual regression testing of critical dashboards. As adoption grew, so did the burden of validating every dashboard by hand, straining resources and slowing down both the migration and the pace of analytics adoption across the company.
For Matthieu, this is where governance comes in, not as a brake, but as a condition for growth:
“Governance is a real topic here, because on the data side, we want to govern data quality, govern the data itself, govern how it’s used. And at the same time, users rightly want as much autonomy as possible. Governance logic lets everyone play their role to the full extent of their exploratory capabilities, while still operating within a framework.”
Distributing BI content with peace of mind
To address this, MACIF adopted Wiiisdom’s automated performance and load-testing solution, alongside automated end-to-end regression testing after every upgrade, making sure dashboards stay fully functional as changes roll out.
Matthieu frames the goal in simple terms:
“What we tried to solve by using Wiiisdom is the ability to distribute, with peace of mind, both for the people producing the information and for the people using it, data that’s qualified and consistent with the uses behind it.”
The shift wasn’t just technical. It changed who catches a problem first:
“It increased user satisfaction, because that’s the feedback we got from them regularly. Before Wiiisdom, we couldn’t control everything automatically, and we ran the risk that it would be the user, first thing in the morning, who discovered the incident. With Wiiisdom, things are much more buttoned-up, much more predictable, on track.”
The outcomes
By automating dashboard validation, MACIF has significantly cut manual effort while improving the reliability of and uninterrupted access to dashboards that are central to commercial activity reporting and day-to-day decision-making.
Business teams can now rely on accurate and up-to-date performance indicators. With these efficiencies in place, MACIF is on track to complete its Cloud migration on time and on budget, without disrupting the experience of its growing user base.
